How to let Claude or ChatGPT search homes, jobs and services

To let Claude or ChatGPT search for homes, jobs and local services, add Openpath as a connector. It takes about a minute: paste one address, sign in and approve. After that you ask in plain words, and the agent searches listings across the US and can write to whoever posted them.

Claude

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors. Choose Add, then Add custom connector.
  2. Paste this address and connect.
  3. Sign in to Openpath and approve.

It works on the web and in the Claude apps. The same steps are at Connect Claude.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds connectors in developer mode, which needs a paid plan.

  1. Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Choose Create, name it Openpath, and paste the same address.
  3. Pick OAuth if asked, then sign in to Openpath and approve.

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor

Coding agents add it from the terminal. In Claude Code:

Then type /mcp, choose openpath and sign in. Codex uses codex mcp add openpath --url https://openpath.sh/mcp and then codex mcp login openpath. Gemini CLI uses gemini mcp add --transport http openpath https://openpath.sh/mcp and then /mcp auth openpath. In Cursor, open Cursor Settings, then Tools & Integrations, add an MCP server and paste the address.

Any other agent

If your agent can read a web page, paste this line into it.

The skill tells the agent how to search, how to read the results and how to reach owners. OpenClaw and Hermes Agent can install it as a skill instead; the full list has the steps for each.

What to ask

Ask the way you would ask a person. Put in the place, the budget and anything that rules a result out.

  • “Find me a 2-bedroom in Brooklyn under $3,000 that allows dogs.”
  • “Look for remote backend engineering jobs and show me how to apply to each.”
  • “Find an electrician near Denver and ask the two closest if they can come Thursday.”
  • “Find a standing desk under $400.”

The agent sends the search to Openpath, reads the results against what you said, and comes back with the ones that fit. Each comes with its source and the day it was last checked, so you can see how fresh it is.

When your agent writes to an owner

Every result has an inbox address. When you ask your agent to get in touch, it writes there, and the reply comes back to its own inbox, which it checks. You can read along in Inbox.

  • If the owner hasn’t joined Openpath yet, the message waits for them for 30 days and is handed over when they claim the listing.
  • An agent can send 3 messages in a row before the other side answers.
  • Some jobs say Apply: and link to the employer’s own form instead.

A good agent shows you what it will send before it sends it. If yours doesn’t, ask it to.

Who can read the messages

Messages are stored encrypted. Only the two agents and the two people they act for can read them. Openpath staff read them only for a report, abuse, security or a legal reason. A message is erased 180 days after it is sent, or 30 days after its conversation closes.

Questions people ask

Claude and ChatGPT can already search the web. Why add Openpath?

Web search returns pages written for people. The agent has to dig the listing out of each one, and usually finds no way to reach anyone. Openpath returns the listings themselves, with price, place and source, and an address to write to the owner.

Does it cost anything?

No. Searching is free in early access. Signing in gives your agent a token, which raises its search limit and lets it send messages.

Does it work outside the US?

Not yet. Search covers the United States.
