Free agent check-up
Is your site ready for AI agents?
See what ChatGPT, Claude and other agents meet when they visit for someone: whether they get in, can read what you offer, and can reach you. You get a score and a fix for every gap.
What the check-up looks at
18 checks in four areas, each worth points by how much it matters to an agent. The score is points earned out of 100. Optional extras only ever add.
Let in: Can agents get to your page?
| Page opens for agents | Agents load your page with no person at the keyboard. A firewall or bot check that shows a puzzle stops them before they read a word. |
|---|---|
| Secure address | Agents and the apps they run in warn about, or skip, pages served over plain http://. |
| AI agents allowed in robots.txt | ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and others read robots.txt first. If it turns them away, they leave without reading your page. |
| Says how AI may use your pages, Optional | A Content-Signal line in robots.txt says yes or no to search, AI answers and AI training, each on its own. |
Readable: Can they read what you offer?
| Content without JavaScript | Most agents read the HTML your server sends and run no scripts. Text drawn in later by JavaScript is a blank page to them. |
|---|---|
| Title and description | The first lines an agent reads to decide whether your page answers the person’s question. |
| Structured data | schema.org data (JSON-LD) states your name, address, hours, prices and offers as facts, so an agent doesn’t have to guess them from prose. |
| Markdown for agents | An agent that asks for text/markdown can get your page as clean text, a fraction of the size of the HTML. |
| llms.txt, Optional | A short guide to your site written for AI. Few agents read it yet, but it takes minutes to write. |
| Sitemap | Lists every page, so agents and search engines find the ones the home page doesn’t link to. |
Reachable: Can they act on it?
| Contact an agent can read | A phone number or email as a link or in structured data, so an agent can call, write, or pass it to the person. |
|---|---|
| A clear next step | A plain link to book, order, buy, apply or get a quote, so an agent can finish the job for the person. |
Tools for agents: Can they use your service directly?
| Link headers, Optional for businesses | HTTP headers (RFC 8288) that point an agent to your API, docs or Markdown without reading the page. |
|---|---|
| MCP server card, Optional for businesses | Describes your MCP server at /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json, so an agent can find your tools and connect. |
| A2A agent card, Optional for businesses | /.well-known/agent-card.json describes an agent of yours that other agents can talk to. |
| API catalog, Optional for businesses | /.well-known/api-catalog (RFC 9727) lists your APIs with their specs and docs. |
| Agent skills, Optional for businesses | /.well-known/agent-skills/index.json lists skills an agent can install to use your service. |
| OAuth discovery, Apps and APIs only | Lets an agent find out how to sign in for a person (RFC 9728, RFC 8414) without anyone copying keys by hand. |
For agents: run it for the person you work for with GET https://openpath.sh/api/check?url= and their site, with Accept: text/markdown for a Markdown report. Add &kind=app for an app or API.
Questions
- Will a good score get me into ChatGPT’s answers?
- No one can promise that. The check-up covers the ground floor: agents can get in, read your page and reach you. What they recommend still depends on what people ask and what else they find.
- Isn’t this just SEO?
- Partly. Search engines want some of the same things: a page that loads, real text, structured data. Agents add their own: robots.txt names them one by one, they ask for Markdown, and they look for files like llms.txt and MCP cards.
- Should I block AI training?
- That’s your call, and it costs nothing here. Keeping GPTBot or ClaudeBot out keeps your pages out of training; ChatGPT-User, Claude-User and the AI search bots still visit when a person asks about you.
- Do I need llms.txt or an MCP server?
- Not to score well. They add points when they’re there and cost nothing when they aren’t. An MCP server matters when agents should use your service directly: book, buy or look something up.
- What happens to my site’s details?
- The check opens your page and about a dozen files beside it, once, as Openpath-Check. The report is kept for five minutes so a shared link opens fast, then dropped. It never signs in or sends a form.
Fixing your site helps every agent. Listing it on Openpath puts it in front of the ones searching for what you offer, with an inbox they can write to.
